The Muslim community in Cameroon and beyond has concluded the month of Ramadan, marked by prayers and sermons from Imams who delivered powerful messages urging Muslim faithful to carry forward the spiritual, social, and moral lessons gained during this sacred period. As the holy month of Ramadan came to an end on March 31, Imam Suleimani of the Mosque of Essos delivered a powerful sermon urging Muslim faithful to carry forward the spiritual, social, and moral lessons gained during the sacred period.
Addressing a congregation at the esplanade of omnisport Stadium, the Imam emphasized that the end of Ramadan should not mark a decline in devotion but rather a continuation of the discipline, generosity, and righteousness cultivated throughout the fasting period. “The lessons from Ramadan are numerous, and it is essential that we apply them beyond this holy month,” Imam Suleimani declared. “Spiritually, Ramadan has reinforced our piety and devotion to Allah, which should remain the foundation of our faith and daily practices.” He emphasized that the spiritual growth achieved through fasting, prayer, and reflection should not diminish after Eid al-Fitr.
He encouraged the faithful to uphold their daily prayers, including the five obligatory ones: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, as a means of maintaining a strong connection with Allah. “The Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, would be pleased with us if we persist in our devotion and obedience to Allah’s commandments,” he reminded the congregation. Beyond spiritual devotion, the Imam highlighted the social impact of Ramadan, stressing the importance of brotherhood, forgiveness, and generosity.
“This holy month has strengthened our sense of community, urging us to show compassion to our neighbors, to forgive past grievances, and to support those in need through acts of charity such as Zakat,” he said. He called on worshippers to carry forward these values and work towards a more just and united society. On the moral aspect, Imam Suleimani praised the self-restraint and discipline displayed by Muslims during Ramadan, noting that these virtues should be applied to daily life. “We have practiced patience in the face of trials, controlled our impulses, and embraced honesty and sincerity.
Let us continue to embody these qualities in our interactions with others,” he urged. The Imam also touched on the health benefits of fasting, explaining how it has helped cleanse the body of toxins and promote overall well-being. He encouraged the faithful to adopt healthy living habits and to view fasting not just as a religious duty but also as a means of self-improvement. In his closing remarks, Imam Suleimani reminded the congregation that Ramadan’s blessings should not end with the celebration of Eid.
“We must continue on the path of righteousness, prayer, and good deeds. Let our faith guide us every day, so that the spirit of Ramadan lives on in our hearts and actions.” As the faithful embraced Eid al-Fitr, the Imam’s sermon served as a profound reminder that the values of Ramadan devotion, compassion, and discipline—should extend throughout the year, shaping their lives and communities for the better.
