FECAFOOT: deputy SG, Benoit Angbwa, steps down

Benoit Angbwa cites unbearable working conditions and psychological harassment by FECAFOOT Secretary General, Isaac Mandong as lead triggering factors for his early exit.

Former Indomitable Lions defensive midfielder, Benoit Angbwa has resigned from his position as deputy Secretary General of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.  He announced his resignation in a letter addressed to FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils yesterday Monday April 7. The former Montpellier sport club star cited unbearable working conditions, including psychological harassment by the current FECAFOOT Secretary General.

The 43-year-old, in the resignation letter, accuses the current FECAFOOT SG, Isaac Mandong of targeting him with derogatory remarks, excessive restrictions, verbal aggression, refusal to collaborate and systematic criticism. He also denounces unbearable working conditions mentioning that “the working environment became incompatible to his duties.”

Despite the challenges, Benoit Angbwa expresses gratitude for the enriching experiences gained during his tenure and collaboration with colleagues. He however requests his work certificate as per regulations. Benoit Angbwa was appointed and installed as Deputy Secretary General by FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o in November last year.

Angbwa’s resignation follows a series of administrative changes within FECAFOOT. Since Samuel Eto’o’s election as president in December 2021, the federation has seen a high turnover of secretary generals. Parfait Siki was the first appointed under Eto’o Fils’ leadership but was soon replaced by Benjamin Banlock, who resigned amid controversies.

Blaise Djounang then served as Secretary General before transitioning to the role of Special Advisor to the President in November last year. Isaac Noé Mandong, previously the Deputy Secretary General, ascended to the position of Secretary General during the same period.
