Basic educaton: Pupils to begin sitting final exams today

Centers in Yaounde and other parts of the country are ready to welcome the young candidates, according to officials.

The pupils in final year classes will begin sitting the Primary Education Certificate, CEP and First School Leaving Certificate examinations today. Centers in Yaounde and other parts of the country are ready to welcome the young candidates, according to officials . Candidates are expected to arrive their respective centers early enough, accompanied by parents and loved ones, for final instructions before the tests. Parents are expected to be present for last-minute advice and encouragement while teachers will be on ground to ensure that all the pupils understand the rules. Many companions plan to wait outside until the break or longer to support their children.

The CEP and First School Leaving Certificate exams are key milestones in Cameroon’s education system, moving pupils from Class Six to Secondary School Form One. Only success will allow candidates to progress to secondary education. Required materials include pencils, erasers, and identification cards . School officials will check attendance and guide candidates to their assigned rooms. The morning session is expected to begin smoothly, with invigilators monitoring the process. Some parents have expressed hope for their children’s success, recalling months of preparation. “All we can say to them is good luck and make us proud,” one parent said.

Some shared stories of extra lessons and sacrifices made to support their education. “My daughter has a home tutor who helps her with some difficult subjects. I know I can count on her,” explained Clémence Ornella, a parent.  As the first day approaches, the determination of the students and the support of their families highlight the importance of education in Cameroon. Parents will watch as these young learners take a crucial step toward their academic futures.
