The National President of the Front for National Salvation (FSNC), Issa Tchiroma, in a viral video is apparently putting a distance between himself and the ruling party as the 2025 presidential race draws near.
As the 2025 presidential election draws closer, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, National President of the Front for National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), has sparked political intrigue by apparently distancing himself from the ruling party in a recent public address. In a fiery speech delivered in Fulfuldé to a crowd of supporters in Garoua, the former government spokesperson took aim at what he described as decades of failed leadership. Without directly naming the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), Tchiroma urged voters to reject those he believes are responsible for widespread poverty, youth unemployment, and social stagnation.
“Anyone who asks you to vote for something that has already been recognized as the cause of your suffering is your enemy,” Tchiroma declared, drawing loud applause from the audience. He lamented the worsening plight of young Cameroonians, pointing to the lack of job opportunities for men and the growing number of women unable to marry due to economic hardship. “A man is only valuable in society when he earns a living. But how many of our sons can do that today?” he asked.
Tchiroma, who served in various ministerial capacities under President Paul Biya’s administration, called for a collective awakening among citizens. “We must not continue to vote for misery. Forty-two years of suffering must end,” he said, in what appeared to be a thinly veiled critique of the regime’s longevity. The FSNC leader also encouraged the population to register massively on the electoral roll and use their voter’s cards as tools for change. “Your awareness is your greatest weapon against those who want to keep you in chains,” he warned. “Even if it’s me, Tchiroma, asking you to vote against your future — resist.”
The speech has since gone viral, stirring debate over Tchiroma’s political intentions and whether his comments mark a definitive break from the ruling elite he once staunchly defended.
