West region: Separatists kill three uniform officers

The attack was carried out by Amba fighters from the Donga Mantung and Bui divisions of the North West Region yesterday morning.

Separatists have killed three uniform officers and injured two others in Warde, a locality in the Magba Subdivision in the Noun Division of the West Region. The attack was carried out by Amba fighters from the Donga Mantung and Bui divisions of the North West Region yesterday morning. The officers were killed after the separatists ambushed them in an area known as Maloun le Petit. Sources say the officers were on patrol when the incident occurred. The three officers killed include two soldiers and one gendarme officers.

Those who were wounded are a soldier and a police officer. One of the officers who was severely wounded had been taken to the hospital for medical attention as at yesterday. According to sources, the separatists made away with arms belonging to the attacked officers. They also vandalized the vehicle belonging to the officers. The group equally released a video later on the day boastfully claiming responsibility of the ambush. Warde is a border community locality between the Donga Mantung and Bui divisions of the North West Region and the Noun Division West Region. Media reports suggest that yesterday’s incident is not the first attack that has been carried out by separatist fighters in Magba Subdivision.

A soldier and a policeman were recently killed during an ambush in the locality. Concerns have been raised by observers over the several attacks with a good chunk of them expressing doubt about the smooth running of the mechanisms that the government has introduced to handle the security threats that have been brought about by the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions. The security of localities that share borders with the two troubled regions have been particularly pointed out as a major source of concern. Multiple attacks have been carried out in the West Region alone since the current crisis began in 2016.
