The joint African Union and Economic Community of Central African States, ECCAS observation mission delivered its final assessment of the 2025 presidential election last Tuesday, describing the election as calm and satisfactory. The head of the AU mission, Bernard Makuza, stated that the voting took place in an atmosphere of serenity and calm.
He specifically addressed the restive Anglophone regions, reporting that even there, voting was hitch free like in the rest of the country, despite a recent lockdown. Echoing this view, the head of the ECCAS mission, Professor Isidore Ndaywel è Nziem, commended the political maturity of the Cameroonian people.
He affirmed that the vote was conducted in a safe and secure manner and that the secrecy of the ballot was guaranteed. While applauding the process, the missions also offered recommendations. They urged electoral authorities to maintain transparency and called on all political parties to deploy representatives to all polling stations.
They also encouraged candidates to prioritize dialogue should they contest the results, emphasizing a peaceful path forward.
