National school guidance day:  students urged to embrace AI, inclusion

The 23rd National School Guidance Day commemorated last Friday at Lycée Général Leclerc was presided over by Minister of Secondary Education Prof Nalova Lyonga with focus on modernizing career counseling through artificial intelligence while promoting inclusive quality education.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Secondary Education Prof Nalova Lyonga delivered a powerful address to the gathered educators and officials. She urged guidance counselors to significantly expand their activities and provide more valuable support and assistance to students across the secondary school system.

The Minister emphasized that these professionals are fundamental pillars within the educational framework, playing a role that directly impacts student success and well-being. Professor Lyonga issued a specific and important directive, stating that counselors must “particularly ensure that the needs of children with special needs are met.” This call for greater inclusivity was a central theme of her speech.

She further encouraged all teachers in the system to actively learn how to become more inclusive educators, creating classroom environments where every child, regardless of their individual challenges or learning styles, has the opportunity to thrive. Beyond the focus on inclusion, the Minister outlined a vision for modernizing the education sector. She stressed the urgent need for guidance counselors to embrace new technologies, specifically Artificial Intelligence, AI.

The goal, she explained, is to use these modern tools to empower learners, making them self-reliant and comfortable with digital platforms. This technological proficiency is seen as essential for preparing students to smoothly transition into a world that is rapidly modernizing and industrializing.

By integrating AI into their counseling practices, educators can offer more personalized advice and help students navigate the vast array of academic and career choices available to them. This dual focus on inclusivity and technological adaptation represents a significant shift in the approach to education. The event according to the minister is a clear call to action for the entire educational community, highlighting the need to continuously improve learning tools and teaching methodologies to better serve a diverse student body.

The message from the ministry is that by strengthening guidance services and embracing innovation, the education system can effectively prepare all learners for the future academic and professional challenges they will face in a constantly evolving world.
