The Vice President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Céline Eko Mendomo, has come out strongly against what she describes as a “coordinated smear campaign” aimed at destabilizing the federation’s leadership.
The Vice President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Céline Eko Mendomo, has issued a sharp warning to individuals and groups she says are behind a coordinated smear campaign against the federation and its president, Samuel Eto’o. Speaking during a press conference at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaoundé, Eko condemned the recent surge in public attacks targeting members of the Executive Committee, with FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o at the center of the controversy. “The individuals behind these persistent campaigns of slander and defamation will be held accountable before the competent legal authorities,” she stated firmly, hinting at potential legal proceedings against those she accuses of tarnishing the image of the federation.
The press conference comes at a time when FECAFOOT is facing increasing criticism from certain sectors, including allegations of mismanagement and internal division. However, Eko used the platform to reaffirm her confidence in Eto’o’s leadership, emphasizing that the federation under his command is governed by transparency and proper administrative processes. She cited the consistent communication and engagement of the Emergency Committee, noting that its members are regularly briefed at least a week in advance on major decisions—a practice she says reflects a shift towards institutional order and responsibility.
The press briefing also addressed financial concerns surrounding FECAFOOT’s recent activities. Eko clarified that the federation’s Executive Committee had officially authorized President Eto’o to oversee funds received from Russia following the Indomitable Lions’ recent international friendly against the Russian national team. This declaration aims to dispel ongoing speculation of financial mismanagement and reaffirm the federation’s commitment to accountability.
In closing, Céline Eko called for unity and focus within the football family, insisting that the leadership’s primary goal remains the development and international competitiveness of Cameroonian football.
