At school’s 50th anniversary celebration: Minister lauds GBHS Essos’ lasting impact in promoting bilingual education

Minister Nalova Lyonga made the declaration in Yaounde last Wednesday, further commending the institution for its similarly groundbreaking role in fostering peaceful coexistence and a sense of shared national identity.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga has described Government Bilingual School Essos Yaounde as a trailblazing institution in the promotion of bilingual education and national unity. The member of government made the comments in Yaounde last Wednesday September 17. This was during the 50th anniversary celebration of the institution.The event took place on school’s campus in Yaounde. It was attended by dignitaries, educationist and alumni. Speaking during the ceremony, Prof Nalova Lyonga said the institution has been exemplary in its 50 years of existence years. The member of government said the 50th anniversary represented 50 years of the institution’s dedication to fostering bilingualism, peaceful coexistence and a sense of shared national identity in Cameroon.

The minister emphasized that the institution has not only provided quality education during the past five decades of its existence but has also served as a model for how schools can contribute to social harmony in a multicultural country. Wednesday’s event brought together high-ranking officials from the Secondary education ministry, traditional leaders, former principals of the school, and the school’s graduates who now work in various fields. Minister Nalova Lyonga in her address in the gathering, personally praised the school’s current principal, Tambeagbor Teddy, for his commitment and leadership.She also thanked the entire education community including teachers, staff, and parents for their sustained efforts and encouraged former students to continue supporting the school’s growth and development

. One of the major highlights of the celebration was the awards segment where students received prizes for outstanding academic performances and other promising achievements.Speaking at the end of the gathering, other authorities who attended the event said the groundbreaking 50th anniversary celebration was the latest demonstration of the position of GBHS Essos’ mission as a leader in the education sector in the country.They said the event also highlighted the need for the institution to remain a leading institution in the Cameroonian education sector, one that equips students not only with knowledge but also with the values needed to contribute to a united and prosperous nation.
