The Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, has unveiled ambitious plans to rollout 5G technology and expand digital services across the country. Speaking at the ongoing 14th edition of the Government Action Fair, SAGO, at the Yaoundé City Council, the Deputy General Manager of CAMTEL announced that, with the necessary infrastructure already in place, Cameroon is on the verge of a major connectivity breakthrough.
The Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, has made a notable appearance at the 14th edition of the Government Action Fair, SAGO, where it showcased its ambitious plans to boost digital connectivity through the rollout of 5G technology and innovative services. Held under the theme “Public Service and the Challenge of Cameroon’s Economic Growth,” this year’s SAGO brings together public and private stakeholders to highlight achievements and ongoing initiatives.
CAMTEL’s participation focused on digital transformation and its evolving role as a major actor in Cameroon’s tech ecosystem. Speaking at a conference organized during the event, CAMTEL’s Deputy General Manager, Daniel Désiré Ollé, presented the theme “CAMTEL Mobile: For a More Connected Cameroon.”His address explored national network expansion, the future of digital technology, and the company’s imminent launch of Blue Money—a mobile money service aimed at enhancing financial inclusion.
“Since 2015, CAMTEL has deployed 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies on par with other telecom operators. Today, we are ready for 5G. The hardware infrastructure is already in place. What remains is the activation of the software component, pending the government’s official adoption of the national 5G strategy,” Mr. Ollé stated.
The Deputy General Manager also revealed that CAMTEL’s broader network expansion plan aims to boost service coverage from 40% to 80% by early 2025, improving service quality across both urban and rural areas. Under the stewardship of General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, CAMTEL continues to position itself as a key partner in the digital modernization of public services. The state-run company is expanding its footprint in areas such as high-speed internet, cloud services, cybersecurity, and enterprise connectivity—playing a vital role in Cameroon’s socio-economic development.
CAMTEL’s dynamic presence at SAGO 2025 reflects its commitment to innovation and its strategic alignment with national goals of technological advancement and digital inclusion. The opening ceremony of SAGO 2025, held on June 30 at the esplanade of the Yaoundé City Council, was presided over by the Minister of Communication, René Emmanuel Sadi, representing the Prime Minister, Head of Government. The eight day SAGO 2025 will run until July 5.
