Cameroon Int’l Cycling Tour: Cameroonian, Boris Tientcheu, wins first lap

The Cameroon National Team cyclist completed the 127.9km distance race in two hours, 58 minutes and 55 seconds.

Cameroon National Cycling Team captain, Michel Boris Tientcheu yesterday emerged as the winner of the opening lap of the 2025 Cameroon International Cycling Tour. The 33-year-old did the 127.9km-long Maroua-Mora-Maroua lap in the Far North Region in two hours, 58 minutes and 55 seconds. Cote d’Ivoire’s Issiaka Cisse and Cameroon’s Clovis Kamzong Abossolo finished second and third respectively. Issiaka did the event in two hours 59 minutes and 53 seconds while SNH Velo Club of Cameroon captain and three-time title holder, Clovis Kamzong Abossolo covered the distance in two hours, 59 minutes and 53 seconds.

Burkina Faso’s Ilbouda Soumaila and Schmitz Campo of Team Storck Metropol Cycling of Germany ranked fourth and fifth respectively. SNH Velo Club’s Chofor Fabrice who finished nineth, rounded up the list of Cameroonians in the top 10 bracket at the close of the opening lap. Tientcheu’s success handed him several individual distinctions heading to the second lap of the event which runs from Maroua to Figuil in the Far North Region this Thursday with a distance of 110km-long.

The Cameroonian cyclist grabbed the yellow which is allocated to the cyclist that leads the overall general classification table of the competition by the end of each lap. He equally bagged the green jersey as the Cameroonian that has the highest number of points by the conclusion of the first leg and the black jersey which is reserved for the regular lap winner. He also got the blue jersey as the best-performing Cameroonian for the first lap. Other distinctions handed at the end of the day one had West African star, Ilbouda Soumaila of Burkina Faso grabbing the white jersey as the best young cyclist of the first lap.

Benin’s Saiznou Glorad was handed the sky-blue jersey for the most combative cyclist in the first lap as Team Cameroon’s Rodrigue Nounawe secured the white shirt with red polka dots as the best climber of the series. Sixty cyclists are competing in the ongoing 2025 race. The cyclists are battling to dethrone defending champion, Clovis Kamzong Abossolo. Abossolo is considered as the favorite for the 2025 competition after previously securing three titles in the event and securing the Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour once.
