A new agreement signed between Cameroon’s national water utility and a Chinese company will modernize and expand drinking water systems in ten towns across the country.
Signed on September 23rd in Yaoundé between the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (Camwater) and the company CGCOC, the agreement aimed to strengthen drinking water supply systems in ten Cameroonian towns. The agreement was signed by Camwater’s Director General, Dr. Blaise Moussa, and CGCOC’s Director General, Lu Chunyu.
This project is a presidential initiative aimed at significantly improving the country’s rate of access to clean water per the partners. The ten towns targeted by the project are Kribi, Abong-Mbang, Monatélé, Ntui, Mbandjock, Guidiguis, Pitoa, Ngong, Ndokayo, and Tignère. Work will include modernizing existing infrastructure, expanding the distribution networks, and increasing production capacity to ensure a regular and high-quality water supply.
Officials state this project is part of President Paul Biya’s vision to meet the growing water needs of both urban and rural populations. The partnership with CGCOC will provide the necessary technical expertise and logistical support for the multi-site project. This move according to CamWater will help the towns become more resilient to droughts and rapid urbanization.
By improving basic services, it is expected to boost local socio-economic development. The project is a strategic milestone for Camwater, reinforcing its commitment to providing quality, accessible, and sustainable drinking water for all Cameroonians.
