North Region team, Mintack Football Club will challenge defending champions, Colombe of South in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Cup of Cameroon in football. The fixture between the pair is expected to produce fireworks as Colombe which has been top form in the last over one year, looks to consolidate its grinding ride while Mintack sets sights on maintaining it so far fulfilling journey as the lone amateur club that is still in the race.
Colombe has won three major trophies in the last 10 months following its victory in the 2024 Cup of Cameroon, the 2025 Cameroon Super Cup and the 2024/2025 first division championship, the MTN Elite One. The team qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2025 national challenge cup competition after registering a comfortable 2-0 victory over one-time Cup of Cameroon and Elite One championship title winner, PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda.
Despite using the performance across the three competitions to establish itself as the outright favorite in the ongoing cup race, the South Region team is expected to exercise utmost vigilance when it challenges Mintack. Mintack has emerged as a dark horse in the 2025 cup race since it came through as the lone regional league team to qualify for the last eight of the national challenge cup competition.
The team sailed through after posting a comfortable 2nil victory over Fauve Azur Elite in the round of 16 stages over the weekend.
Other scintillating quarterfinal fixtures lined up
In the other quarterfinal fixtures, last year’s runner, Aigle of Menoua will challenge record 12-time winner, Canon of Yaounde. Aigle recently qualified for the first division championship after a brilliant run in the second division during the 2024/2025 campaign. The team will be looking on to build on the league journey as it takes on a Canon side that is aiming to use the cup competition to safe its season after missing out on the Elite One title.
Aigle reached the last eight after posting a 3-1 win over reigning West Region champions, Riziere of Noun while Canon knocked out amateur team, Chamba SA with a thumping 7-0 win. Two-time winners, Panthere of Nde will entertain Center Region outfit, Apejes of Mfou. Panthere completed the recent 2024/2025 campaign in the Elite One sitting second on the table behind winners Colombe.
The team will have eyes on getting its bet right against an equally dangerous and unpredictable Apejes team. Apejes qualified after a 3-1 win over Aigle of Moungo while Panthere sailed through with a 2-1 triumph over US Abong Mbang of the East Region. Racing of Bafoussam which won the cup trophy in 1996 will be challenging Elite Two club, Atlantic Sports Academy of Kribi. Atlantic eliminated Gazelle FA of Garoua in the round of 16 to setup the expectedly scintillating quarterfinal showdown.
