The University of Yaounde II has begun organizing the first edition of its Student-Entrepreneur Open Days. The three-day event which began yesterday and rounds up on Friday March 28 is holding on the theme: Student Entrepreneurship: Challenges, Opportunities, and Prospects, which aims to promote entrepreneurship among students. The event is targeting students of the University of Yaounde II, who have innovative ideas and projects to receive training on the challenges, opportunities, and constraints related to innovation and business creation.

The students also acquire skills in project development, research, and access to funding. The opening day of the event yesterday featured the signing of a partnership agreement between the University of Yaounde II and the Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (APME). This agreement aims to provide a framework for the support and monitoring of students with projects.

The event is designed to provide students with the necessary tools and resources to develop their entrepreneurial skills and transform their ideas into successful businesses. The partnership with APME will enable students to access funding, mentorship, and other resources to support their entrepreneurial ventures. The University of Yaounde II initiative is part of its efforts to promote entrepreneurship and innovation among its students.

The Rector of the University of Yaounde II, Prof Richard Laurent Omgba has outlined the institution’s vision to transition from a traditional public service university to an entrepreneurial hub. “The objective is to give content to two concepts. The concept of university enterprise and the concept of student entrepreneurship. They are concepts that are consecrated in the organization, that consecrate the transition from the university of public service to a university of entrepreneurship,” the institution’s leader said.

The event brought together students, entrepreneurs, and industry experts to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in entrepreneurship. The Student-Entrepreneur Open Days provides a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and projects, receive feedback from experts, and network with potential investors and partners. Some Entrepreneurs benefited from prices and were excited as some say it will help a lot in their careers. “The name of my project is Bear of Victory Electronics.

I got my idea from the lack of spare parts in our country. For example, you have a good laptop with a lot of information in it. But when it gets bad, it becomes difficult to repair due to lack of a spare part, which can cost you a few coins to get. When I got this idea, I just developed it. Luckily enough, I got this opportunity,” one of the beneficiaries, Njimona Bernice Solli, said.

“This financing will help me a lot because with all the equipment I have procured, I will be able to start up something. With time, in the future, I believe I will be able to create employment for the younger generations as well,” she added. The fair successfully showcased the entrepreneurial spirit of students of the University of Yaounde II, providing a platform for them to receive funding and support for their innovative projects, paving the way for a brighter entrepreneurial future.
