Elite basketball championships: FAP, BEAC bag 2025 crown

The two teams were crowned over the weekend at the end of the topflight championship across the men and women’s divisions.

BEAC and FAP of Yaounde are winners of the 2025 first division basketball championship in Cameroon. The two teams were declared champions over the weekend at the end of the 2025 edition of the championship. BEAC won the league in the men’s category while FAP women retained their title in the women’s series after posting a beautiful ride throughout the season. 

BEAC stuns FAP

BEAC won the league after winning 12 of its 14 matches in the men’s competition. The outfit confirmed the groundbreaking run with two victories during last weekend’s matches which served as the final round of games in the competition. The outfit defeated Falcons of Yaounde 66-57 and silenced Ecole de Basket 78-61 victory.

The club wins the title ahead of serial winners, FAP men’s basketball club of Yaounde Alph of Yaounde and Ecole de Basket. This is BEAC’s overall seventh title in the domestic topflight championship in Cameroon and the team’s first crown in the competition since 2018. Through the domestic title in Cameroon, the team has earned a ticket to compete in the 2025/2026 Basketball Africa League, the BAL. The BAL is Africa’s biggest men’s club basketball competition.

BEAC will begin its campaign in the tournament at the level of the qualifiers. The team will be aiming to become the first Cameroonian club to feature in the competition since it was introduced by FIBA Africa and the NBA in 2021 to replace the FIBA Africa Basketball League. FAP which featured in the event in 2022 and 2023 remains the only Cameroonian team to have appeared in the competition.

FAP women retain crown

FAP women won the league title in the women’s event after completely dominating the championship in that category. The club won 13 of its 14 matches in the competition. The team rounded up business in the series with wins over the University of Douala basketball club and United Ladies of Douala.

 The side humbled the United Ladies 71-39points following a stellar performance from the team’s star player, Kipo Kelya who powered in 17points, a rebound and an assist. Pius Beggi chipped in 23points, two rebounds and four assists to help the FAP team outsmart the University of Douala 69-41. FAP will represent Cameroon in the 2025 Africa Women’s Basketball League.

The Africa Women’s Basketball League is Africa’s biggest women’s club basketball competition. FAP will begin its campaign in the tournament at the level of the qualifiers in Central Africa.
