FAR NORTH: 514,000 benefit free health campaign

A week-long free health campaign organized by Cameroon’s Ministry of Public Health under the leadership of Dr. Manaouda Malachie has concluded with significant success in the Far North.

Launched on June 23 in Maroua, the campaign exceeded its initial target of 500,000 beneficiaries, reaching 514,364 individuals a 102.9% achievement rate. Medical consultations were provided to 185,203 people, while surgical interventions included 1,202 cataract operations and 1,185 dental procedures.  The initiative, supported by President Paul Biya, aimed to provide medical services to vulnerable populations.

Additional services included extensive screenings for hepatitis (14,271), HIV (6,848), and tuberculosis (3,126), along with 5,491 malaria treatments. The effort aligns with the government’s interest to improving healthcare access for underserved communities. Health workers, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, were commended for their dedication in delivering services under challenging conditions. Local authorities and beneficiaries expressed gratitude for their efforts, praising the minister of health for his endless effort.

The campaign also received support from sponsors and NGOs, which contributed medicines, equipment, and logistical aid. In recognition of their service, participating medical personnel and volunteers were awarded certificates. Jean Nkrumah, Mayor of Kale, praised the initiative, emphasizing its importance to local communities. The campaign reflects ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access across Cameroon.
