The game will on a larger scale, serve as the Indomitable Lions’ official engagement for the forthcoming June 2025 FIFA international window where the team is expected to be in camp from June 2 to June 10, according to the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT. Cameroon is expected to use the June activities to prepare for the next window of qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament. Cameroon will return to action in the qualifiers in September this year where the team will entertain Eswatini and Cabo Verde in two decisive matches. The team will lock horns with Eswatini at home on September 1 before jetting off to Praia to challenge the Blue Sharks of Cabo Verde on September 5 in the ultimate game of its Group D qualifying series. Cameroon is presently ranked second in the group after garnering 12points in six matches in the series.
The team sits just a point behind leaders Cabo Verde who tally 13points after recording major successes during the last qualifying series in March this year. The Indomitable Lions are aiming to complete the qualifying series as the top-placed team in the pool to pick an automatic qualification ticket to the 2026 Mundial scheduled to hold in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America next year. A possible qualification for the tournament which will run from June 11 to July 19 next year, will see Cameroon further cementing its place as the African nation with the highest number of participations in the final phase of the FIFA World Cup competition.
Cameroon has eight appearances in the competition, two more than any other African nation. The team is presently eyeing a nineth appearance in expanded 48-national global competition. The Indomitable Lions were last on action on March 25 this year when they secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Libya at the Ahmadou Ahidjou Stadium in Yaounde on match day six of the ongoing qualifiers.
