Healthcare: gov’t, CAMTEL, ink landmark deal to modernize sector

The partnership which has been described as a perfect depiction of CAMTEL’s growing role in national development through digital transformation, aims to fast-track the digitalization of health services across the country. It marks the beginning of the second phase of the health digitalization initiative which will involve the deployment of necessary digital equipment and infrastructure to ensure the efficient rollout of health services.

The Ministry of Public Health and telecommunications powerhouse, CAMTEL, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding, MoU to drive the digitalization of health services nationwide. The MoU was signed in Yaoundé last Monday May 6, 2025, by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie and CAMTEL’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi. The ceremony was attended by financial and technical partners of the health ministry, as well as a delegation from the state-run telecommunications provider. Speaking at the event, Minister Manaouda hailed CAMTEL’s technical expertise and consistent support in shaping Cameroon’s digital health strategy.

He noted that CAMTEL has played a pivotal role in the progress made under the Universal Health Coverage, UHC, initiative, particularly through the development and implementation of digital infrastructure.  “The equipment and support provided by CAMTEL have greatly enhanced the performance of our health services,” Dr. Manaouda stated.  “This partnership is a key pillar in reinforcing Universal Health Coverage across the country.” The agreement marks the beginning of the second phase of the health digitalization initiative, which will involve the deployment of necessary digital equipment and infrastructure to ensure the efficient rollout of services.

For CAMTEL, the partnership depicts its growing role in national development through digital transformation, especially in critical sectors like health. The collaboration is expected to improve healthcare delivery, enhance data management, and ensure greater accessibility to medical services for all Cameroonians, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
