The five were arrested over the weekend, days shortly after the disappearance of the construction site manager was reported.

Five persons have been arrested in Limbe in the Fako Division of the South Region over alleged involvement in the murder of a Limbe-based construction site manager, per reports. According to sources, the group was arrested for killing a man whose name The National Post got as Dinga Protus, a construction site manager and businessman resident in Mile 2 in Limbe. They were picked up after an investigation by the police following reports of the businessman’s disappearance.

The report had been filed by the wife of the late 52-year-old man. The report led to the launch of a region-wide investigation by authorities. Reports say Dinga’s wife reached out to the police to report her husband’s disappearance. Following investigation, it was revealed that the deceased had been murdered and buried in Kie a locality in Limbe in a premeditated homicide last Monday May 5.

Suspects’ shocking confession

Per police reports, the suspects involved in the incident recently confessed about the killing. The report stated that the ring leader of the group whose name The National Post got as George, confessed to the police after they were picked up following a failed attempt to sell the deceased’s vehicle. After the arrested, the suspects confessed and led authorities to the spot where they had killed and buried the victim. A social media video circulating online shows the ringleader believed to be explaining that he is the supervisor of a quarry owned by the victim. He narrated that before the killing, he went to the deceased’s residence in Limbe claiming that there was an urgent incident that needed Mr Dinga’s attention. He said the victim was ambushed later taken to the spot where he was ambushed with a hammer, tortured, killed and later decapitated and buried in a shallow grave that was prepared before the killing was carried out.

It is reported that during the confession, George falsely said the deceased owed him a sum of four million FCFA contrary to what was revealed that he and his accomplices might have been hired by someone who was involved in a land dispute with the deceased. Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome in an outing, expressed dismay, condemning and describing the killing as an act of taboo in the culture of the Bakweri people in the South West Region. He assured the community that the role of law will prevail in the case. The deceased’s body has been exhumed for proper burial rituals to follow as requested by his family.
