Maarif Science Fair: young innovators charm visitors with creativity

The students left a lasting a lasting impact on the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Cameroon, government officials, school authorities and parents with innovative ideas during the one-day fair organized in Yaounde on Saturday March 15.

The event was graced by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Cameroon, H.E. Volkan Oskiper, and attended by school administrators, academic staff, students, and parents. Ambassador Oskiper expressed his admiration for the young innovators. “I am very impressed by the level of scientific minds that the students of Maarif Foundation have developed,” he said.

“Some of these projects are really advanced for their age, but what struck me most is that all of them are focused on practical solutions that address real-life necessities and the future of Cameroon.” The science fair featured a wide range of projects, from robotics and solar energy applications to code-writing systems and mechanical innovations.

Students demonstrated working models of solar-powered devices, automated systems, and prototypes designed to solve everyday challenges. Hüseyin Talih, Principal of College Maarif Yaoundé, highlighted the purpose behind the fair. “Our aim is to prepare our students to become scientists, engineers, and doctors. They are intelligent and talented, and through hands-on learning, they are improving significantly,” he stated. “For example, we have a solar system project that powers a fan.

This is just the beginning—one day, they could build solar-powered cars or even planes.” One of the standout exhibits was a robotics demonstration, where students programmed autonomous robots to perform tasks. The fair also included software development projects, showcasing students’ ability to write code and create digital solutions. “We are teaching our students how to write code and understand robotics because these skills are crucial for the future,” added Talih.

The success of the science fair has paved the way for international opportunities. “After this fair, we will take some of our projects to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for a larger science exhibition,” said Talih. “Additionally, selected projects will be presented at Teknofest, a major science and technology festival in Turkey.” The Maarif Foundation, in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy, continues to support education in Cameroon by providing resources and fostering an environment that encourages innovation.

Ambassador Oskiper emphasized this partnership, stating, “Our priority is ensuring that Cameroonian students receive the education they deserve. The Maarif Foundation and the Turkish Embassy work together to support these young minds.” The fair ended on a high note, with students receiving recognition for their efforts and encouragement to continue pursuing scientific exploration. With growing support and participation, the Maarif Science Fair is becoming a key platform for nurturing the next generation of innovators in Cameroon.

The event’s impact extends beyond the school, inspiring both students and educators to push the boundaries of knowledge and practical application. With plans already underway for the next edition, expectations are high for even more ground-breaking projects in the future.
