MTN elite two playoffs: Aigle, unisport near topflight return

The two teams have both won their four opening matches in the ongoing promotion playoffs series in the second division football championship.

Unisport Football Club of Upper Nkam and its West regional sister team, Aigle of Menoua have both boosted their chances of securing promotion to the first division at the end of the ongoing second-tier championship playoffs series. The two former first division teams have both won all four of their opening matches in the seven-game series which features the eight teams that finished in the top four bracket across groups A and B of the regular season. The teams are locked atop the tentative classification table with 12points and look set to grab the two promotion qualification tickets at the end of the series.

The duo is placed five points ahead of the six other teams in the race. Atlantic Sports Academy of Kribi which places third, just below the promotion bracket, has seven points after winning two and drawing one in its four matches. Unisport registered its fourth successive victory last Sunday after posting a comfortable 2-0 victory over North West Region team, Bafmeng United Football Academy at the Mbappe Leppe Stadium in Douala in the final game of day four of the promotion journey. The team scored both goals through its star player, Assiga Edzoa who now has seven goals to standout as the team’s top scorer in the series.

Before the victory, the club had registered easy victories over 2017 Elite One champions, Eding Sport of Lekie, North West Region’s Ngoketunjia United Football Academy and five-time Cameroon champions, Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaounde. The team notably posted a mind-blowing 4nil win over Ngoketunjia United who are making their debut appearance in the promotion playoff phase of the second-tier championship after spending over five years in the league.

Aigle also flying toward topflight return

Aigle of Menoua registered a hard-earned 3-2 victory over Eding Sport of Lekie during its day four outing on Sunday.

Before the challenging showdown at the Mbappe Leppe, the team had posted easy victories in all three of its opening matches. The team had earlier outclassed Avion Football Academy of Nkam 2-0 and walked past through with a 4-2 triumph over Atlantic Sports Academy to register two of their three victories in the series.

Decisive match day five cracker tomorrow

With four wins on four in their four opening games, the two teams are expected to send the playoffs show down the wire tomorrow when they faceoff at the Mbappe Leppe Stadium on match day five. A victory for any of the two teams at the end of the round five fixture may see the winning outfit securing qualification to the topflight competition with two matches to spare in the campaign. Both teams can also qualify for the topflight championship if they play out a draw in the fixture. But that could however depend largely on how things span out in the other matches featuring the six other teams in the series.

Other day five matches on Wednesday will see Atlantic Sports Academy entertaining Tonnerre of Yaounde at the Mbappe Leppe Stadium. Tonnerre has had a challenging race in the competition so far. The team has recorded two victories and two defeats in its first four matches while Atlantic has seven points after posting two victories, one draw and a defeat. Avion Academy will faceoff with Ngoketunjia United Football Academy at the Bonamoussadi Stadium still in Douala. Avion has six points after registering two victories and two defeats.

That is far superior to Ngoketunia United’s record of three defeats and a draw. Bafmeng United will host Eding Sport of Lekie at the same facility. Bafmeng United has a record of three defeats and a draw, the same run as Eding Sport.
