Nation in campaign mode: parties blanket the country

The race for the presidency officially began this Saturday, September 27, 2025 with a burst of energy as the main candidates launched their campaigns with major rallies in cities across the country.

With political activity as the leading presidential candidates hit the ground running to mark the first day of the election campaign season. From the capital to the regions, large public meetings are held to present their visions and connect with voters. In the political heart of the nation, Yaoundé, candidate Tomaïno Ndam Njoya of the Cameroonian Democratic Union (UDC) officially started her campaign.

She gathered her supporters for a major launch event at the esplanade of the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports Stadium, setting a determined tone for the race ahead. Meanwhile, in the city of Bamenda, the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party officially began its campaign.

Their candidate, Joshua Osih, met with followers at Commercial Avenue. The rally, scheduled for 2 P.m., was a key moment for the party to energize its base in the region. Up north in Garoua, the campaign also saw a vibrant start. The Cameroonian Democratic Front (FDC) and its candidate, Samuel Hiram Iyodi, launched their efforts around 3 P.m. at the Wouro Hourso stadium, presenting their platform to the local crowd.

 In Ndikiniméki, candidate Serge Espoir Matomba of the PURS party did not hold back. He started his electoral campaign with a large meeting, signaling his strong commitment to compete for the presidency. With the first day of campaigning complete, the stage is set for a dynamic and closely watched election period. Candidates are now expected to travel nationwide, presenting their promises and engaging with citizens in the weeks leading up to the vote.

Meanwhile as the candidates move forward with their campaigns, the minister of territorial administration Paul Atanga Nji has warned all parties to avoid hate speech and actions that could disturb the peace. He has asked them to focus on values that unite the country.

At the same time, the National Communication Council has instructed the media to be fair, balanced, and transparent in their election reporting.
