Presidency: tensions rise at ELECAM office

Tensions flared on Thursday 9 October at the Elecam office in Santa Barbara, Douala, as several citizens gathered to collect their voter cards.

Frustrated by delays in distribution, they chanted in unison: “We want to vote!” signaling growing impatience just days before the presidential election. On site, some residents reported missing voter cards and unjustified delays, raising concerns about potential obstacles on Election Day.

Despite these challenges, the large turnout contradicts earlier predictions of high voter abstention, showing a strong determination among citizens to participate. Elecam offices across the country have been overcrowded for several days, with long queues forming as early as 5 a.m. in major cities. For many voters, this election represents a decisive opportunity to make their voices heard and influence the country’s political future.

Observers note that the intense interest underscores the high stakes of the October 12, 2025, vote, reflecting widespread anticipation and engagement among Cameroonians. Authorities have urged patience and cooperation, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to facilitate a smooth distribution of voter cards before Election Day.
