Start-Up 237 in Douala : from pineapple wine to AI-powered prosthetics

The field mission led by Professor Alain Kiyindou, Regional Director of the Francophone University Agency (AUF) for Central Africa and the Great Lakes region, continued this Tuesday, September 23 in Douala, with visits to projects incubated at the University Institute of Technology.

For this second day, the delegation began its tour at the University Institute of Technology (IUT) of Douala. Accompanied by Professor Paul Etame, Director of the institute, the team visited SN Vigne, an agri-food start-up headed by Louis Mbem. This young company produces white wine from pineapple and hibiscus, as well as ginger and beetroot liqueur.

Thanks to support from the Fonds Équipe France, the company is now capable of producing an average of 60 bottles per month. This structuring support helped finance production equipment and ensure working capital. However, the company still faces major challenges related to the supply of raw materials, which are sometimes of uncertain quality.

Second stop, direction Ndogbong, to the workshops of Rob X, the start-up founded by Michel Junior Foyet. Since 2023, this young entrepreneur has been manufacturing robotic prosthetics enhanced with artificial intelligence. This project combines technological innovation and social impact by facilitating access to advanced medical devices for people with disabilities. Finally, the mission visited the premises of KT Consulting, which specializes in the study, design, and modeling of architectural projects.

The company develops solutions tailored to local realities, with a strong emphasis on innovation and functional aesthetics. An example of dynamism in a rapidly changing sector. After Douala, the caravan will continue its journey to Ngaoundéré, before stopping in Dschang and then Bamenda, where the national tour will conclude.

The visits will end on October 3, allowing for an initial progress assessment of the Start-Up 237 program and strengthening synergies around youth entrepreneurship in Cameroon.
