The University of Bamenda, UBa, has taken a pivotal step in advancing civic and moral education by actively participating in a two-day workshop organized under the PRONEC-REAMORCE initiative. The workshop focused on modernizing the university’s training curricula with an emphasis on leadership, civic responsibility, sustainability, development, and climate change resilience. The event which took place from April 7 to 8, 2025, at the Conference Hall of the National Youth Observatory in Madagascar, brought together key academic staff responsible for curriculum review and academic planning at the University of Bamenda.
It also involved experts from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and the team of TAGDev 2.0 which is a programme that support young African students that are economically disadvantaged but academically competent to access university education.. The aim was to align the university’s training programs with Cameroon’s National Development Strategic Plan by reviewing the PRONEC-REAMORCE document, identifying relevant learning outcomes, and proposing strategies for integrating out-of-school youths into the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education’s Entrepreneurial Incubators.
Officials said the initiative is a vital component of the TAGDev 2.0 delivery pathway, which seeks to empower youths beyond the classroom. Throughout the workshop, participants worked intensively on developing a new course module that reflects the core values of moral and civic education. This module will soon be submitted to the Academic Planning Committee of the University of Bamenda for consideration and approval. In addition, a policy document is being prepared to support the adoption of the PRONEC-REAMORCE framework across higher education institutions.
A joint communiqué between Youth affairs ministry and the University of Bamenda is also expected, outlining their shared commitment to strengthening leadership, enhancing strategic governance, and building climate change resilience among Cameroonian youths. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the transformation of higher education in Cameroon. By reinforcing civic responsibility and preparing students and out-of-school youths alike to face the challenges of sustainable development and climate change, the University of Bamenda, MINJEC, and TAGDev 2.0 are setting the stage for a more engaged, informed, and resilient generation.
