Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute has inaugurated a major iron mine at Bipindi Grand-Zambi, launching a project that promises to bring significant economic benefits through job creation and revenue generation for the nation.
On September 22, 2025, Prime Minister officially opened the new iron mine at Bipindi Grand-Zambi. Operated by the company G-Stone, this mining project represents an important step in strengthening Cameroon’s economy and creating new opportunities for its people. The mine contains valuable iron deposits estimated to be worth $33.3 billion.
With a planned operational life of 56 years, the project will produce six million tonnes of iron concentrate annually during its initial phase. This substantial production will contribute significantly to the country’s mining sector and overall economic output. The project according to the minister will provide important financial benefits to the Cameroonian government.
The state will receive approximately 10% of the sales revenue, along with regular tax payments and additional dividends from its ownership share in the venture. These funds will support national development programs and public services.
Job opportunities for its people
Job creation is a key advantage of the mining project. G-Stone currently employs more than 500 workers and aims to expand this number to 5,000 by 2027. Beyond these direct employment opportunities, the mine is expected to generate thousands of additional jobs in supporting industries and local businesses, helping to boost economic activity in the region.
The Bipindi Grand-Zambi iron mine represents a long-term investment in Cameroon’s economic future. Through sustained revenue generation and employment opportunities, the project will play a crucial role in supporting the country’s development goals for decades to come.
