Unlocking economic potential: Minim Martap Bauxite Mine inaugurated

The Prime Minister, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has officially launched the Minim-Martap bauxite mining project this 24 September 2025.

The nation’s Prime Minister presided over the cornerstone-laying ceremony, marking the start of a venture expected to create jobs and diversify the country’s revenue sources, with the first exports planned for next year. Happening in the Adamaoua region the launched is hailed as a pivotal moment for the nation’s economic future.

The project, operated by the company Canyon Resources and its local subsidiary Camalco, will tap into Cameroon’s largest known deposit of bauxite, the essential are used to produce aluminum per the ministers. The minister says the mine will not only bring in significant export revenue but also create numerous direct and indirect jobs for local communities.

Authorities have set an ambitious timeline, aiming for the first shipments of bauxite to begin within the first half of 2026. This initiative according to the minister is part of a broader national strategy to transform the country vast natural resources into tangible engines for growth and development.

Beyond the immediate economic benefits, analysts emphasize the long term importance of the project. The call is for the revenues generated to be managed efficiently and with a patriotic spirit.

The ultimate goal is for the wealth from this natural resource to fund critical public infrastructure, improve living standards, and support vital social sectors like education and healthcare for the benefit of all Cameroonians and future generations.
