Volleyball: litto team 2025 champions

Litto team defeated the Mayo-Kani girls 3-1 in the women’s final, while the Litto men’s team edged Douala Port Authority 3-1 in the men’s final of the Cup of Cameroon played on Sunday June 8, at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Yaounde.

The Litto Volleyball Team made history over the weekend at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex, claiming national titles in both the men’s and women’s categories of the 2025 Cup Cameroon Volleyball. In a display of power and precision, the women’s team, coached by Donald Nsounfon, defended their crown with a decisivevictory over Mayo-Kani, 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 15-25 and 25-16). securing their second consecutive national title. Despite a determined effort from their Far North rivals, the Litto ladies proved too strong, maintaining composure under pressure and capitalizing on key moments throughout the match.

Octavie Mekong, assistant coach of Mayo-Kani, admitted the loss was a tough pill to swallow after a promising season. “We are disappointed, especially because we worked so hard this season. The girls gave their best, but we made too many mistakes, particularly in receptions and failed to convert chances. We dominated the fourth set but couldn’t keep the momentum. Still, finishing second secures us a spot in next season’s Zone 4 competition and the African Champions League,” she said. On the winning bench, Adolphe Moussango, assistant coach of Litto, attributed the team’s continued success to rigorous training and resilience. “We are extremely happy to win the Cameroon Cup for the third time in a row.

We trained intensively, focusing on both attack and defense. We had doubts in the third set, especially after Brandy Gatcheu injured her thumb, but the team remained focused. Mayo-Kani is a team we greatly respect. They’re the next best after us.” One of the experience players in the team, Brandy Gatcheu, an Outside hitter emerged the most valuable player of the competition that saw Mayo-Kani sweating all sweat.to no avail. In the men’s final, Litto Team broke new ground by defeating Douala Port Authority 3-1 (25-18, 26-24, 21-25 and 25-19) to clinch their first-ever national title in men’s volleyball. The hard-fought victory marks a milestone for the squad, who had spent three seasons in Cameroon’s elite volleyball division without silverware.

Speaking after the match, the team captain could hardly contain his excitement. “We are overjoyed. This victory is the result of the hard work and sacrifice of the entire team and staff. Douala Port Authority has been a tough opponent in the past, but we believed in ourselves. Now we shift focus to preparing for the Zone 4 competition and other international challenges.”

Cameroon volleyball federation announces international training camps

The final also served as a platform for major announcements. Cameroon Volleyball Federation President, Bello Bourdanne, shared insights on the appointment of Brazilian coach Paulo de Tarso Milagres to head the national women’s senior team. “After careful evaluation, we felt it was time to introduce a new approach. Paulo brings a wealth of experience and strong emotional management skills. We believe he can unlock the full potential of our talented generation,” Bourdanne said. The Federation also revealed that both the senior and U20 women’s teams will soon travel to Japan for training camps ahead of the 2025 African U20 Women’s Championship. A subsequent camp in Brazilwill allow players to compete in friendly matches before heading to Thailand for the 2025 U20 Volleyball World Championship, scheduled for August 22 to September 7, 2025. Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, who presided over the event, praised the high-level organization and the quality of the matches. “We just witnessed two beautiful and competitive matches. The President of the Republic has approved the hosting of the African U20 Women’s Championship here in Cameroon. We congratulate the Federation and assure our continued support despite any external challenges.” With this historic double win, Litto Team has cemented its status as a powerhouse in Cameroonian volleyball, and expectations are already high for the upcoming 2025/2026 season.
